Amy asked:

he is only 3 years old. this all started when we stupidly let him outside. Took him to the vet but it’s nothing medical. We cleaned the rugs but it doesnt matter. He even goes on the rugs and on the bathroom or kitchen floor, especially if there is something like a towel on the floor.

Now, I have decided he’s banned to the upstairs spare kitchen we have with no rug. Is there anything to make him more comfrotable there? there are 2 big windows he can look out. I know he will be lonely because we have 3 other cats, but we just cannot have our rugs ruined and have him do this.
oh definitely neutered, has been for 1-1/2 yrs. This all coincided with going outside.
this is really sad for me, I dont want him to live in another room but I have no choice.

Is he neutered ? Male cats will mark their territory with urine if not fixed.
**** Okay then it’s best to keep him separate until he uses the box consistantly. But I would use the bathroom , and give him a new box in there. When he comes back into your main household bring HIS litter box with. It should only take a day or two.

Okay, theres different answers to this question you should try them all.
    1. Try moving the litter box to were your cat normaly goes to the bathroom. then slowly move it foot by foot to the location that you want it to be at.

    2. Some cats just arent used to using a litter box, when they pee on something other then in the litter box you punish them, say NO and point to its mess, then say YES and point to the litter box, this may take some time but it will soon enough get the idea

    3. Continuely put it in his/her litter box, when it trys to get out put it back in, wait until it goes to the restroom then when it does, show him affection and he will get the idea/
    Glad to help,

Sometimes neutering doesn’t affect male cat’s urge to spray.
